Regenerate your soil. Boost pasture diversity. Support healthy, high-performing livestock.
Our bare, untreated Plantain Seed (Plantago lanceolata) is a hardy, multi-functional herb that thrives in lower fertility soils and adds real value to your pasture system. Whether you're managing horses, cattle, sheep or building out a permaculture plot, this broadleaf is a game-changer for both soil and animal health.
Why Grow Plantain?
-
Improves Soil Health
Grows well in lower fertility soils and helps regenerate tired paddocks with its deep taproot system that aerates soil and boosts microbial life.
-
Great for Horse Paddocks
A mineral-rich, palatable grazing herb that supports gut health and balances nutrient intake in equine systems.
-
Nutrient-Dense Livestock Feed
High in protein, calcium, sodium, copper and selenium – perfect for supporting growth, milk production, fertility, and immune function.
-
Boosts Pasture Diversity & Function
A lovely broadleaf that enhances photosynthesis, supports soil cover, and contributes to a healthier pasture ecosystem.
-
Adaptable Use Cases
- Over-sow existing grass paddocks to increase diversity.
- Treat high-impact areas like laneways or around troughs
- Sow in weed-prone areas to outcompete low-succession plants.
- Include in permaculture, herb gardens or peri-urban spaces
- Use in medicinal herb plots – leaves are vitamin-rich and known to act as a natural drawing agent
How to Sow & Manage
-
Suggested sowing rate: 1–2 kg/ha into mixed pastures.
-
Best applied: Summer or winter – suited to all seasons for soil health or as a protein-rich forage
-
Broadcast or drill-sow into grass paddocks, or plant in specific herb/medicinal zones
-
Maintenance: We recommend using biostimulants and natural-friendly fertilisers post-grazing to maintain plant health and nutritional value, especially in poor or compacted soils
This seed is bare (non-coated) and can be mixed with other grass seed blends available on our website.
